SHALIMAR STATION OF S E RAILWAY NOW HAVE WI FI FACILITY

ANOTHER NINE STATIONS OF SER TO HAVE WI FI

Kolkata, 11th January 2019

Shalimar Station of South Eastern Railway has been provided with free Wi Fi facility from today (11.1.19). The Wi Fi facility for the rail users of this station has been commissioned by RailTel for providing free high speed state-of-the-art world class internet experience to the commuters. Passengers at Shalimar will now be able to download a book or music of their choice, have an overview of their destination or simply log into the current news without interruption.

There is a rising trend of Wi Fi usage among the passengers at different stations of S ERailway. Keeping this in view, nine more stations under SER’s jurisdiction will be covered with free Wi Fi connectivity within the current financial year (2018-19). The stations are Chakulia, Haldia, Tamluk, Dantan, Midnapur, Mecheda, Santragachi, Bagnan and Panskura.

As a part of Government’s Digital India initiatives, South Eastern Railway has so far commissioned Wi-Fi services at 14(fourteen) Stations enabling about lakhs of rail passengers to log o­n to the free internet facility. Apart from Shalimar, the 13 SER stations which are already equipped with Wi-Fi facility are Kharagpur, Ranchi, Digha, Purulia, Hatia, Bokaro, Tatanagar, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Mahalimarup, Barabamboo and Tiruldih.

 Over Indian Railways, altogether 746 railway stations have been provided with Wi-Fi facility which has proved very useful to the general public. Indian Railways is also planning to extend Wi-Fi facilities in at least 2000 stations across the country in near future and all stations ultimately.
