RAILWAYS TO USE NIRBHAYA FUND SUPPORT TO INSTALL CCTVs

TO ENHANCE SAFETY

 

Kolkata, 26th April, 2018:

 

In order to prevent crimes in railway areas and premises, South Eastern Railway has planned to install CCTV Cameras at 33 stations from Nirbhaya Fund. This Nirbhaya Fund support has been initiated towards protecting the dignity and ensuring safety of women in railways by installing CCTV Cameras for quick response system to create deterrence against crimes. Rs.7 crores have been sanctioned to install CCTV Cameras covering 33 densely populated stations mostly in Suburban Section of Kharagpur Division and at Bankura,Balasore and Hatia Stations .

 

This o­n camera surveillance will enhance safety at railway stations and railway places through video monitoring, facial recognition analytics and person tracking systems. This will also envisage re-development of the railway front to make it more women friendly. With these installations at crime prone stretches, stations and trains, RPF and GRP will easily maintain a strict vigil in criminal investigation when required. Technical surveillance will assist the short-staffed force effectively.

 

As many as 538 CCTV Cameras have so far been installed in SER jurisdiction covering four divisions i.e Kharagpur, Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi to strengthen the security at railway premises. These CCTV Cameras at platform, waiting areas where there are control rooms at stations to monitor CCTV footages by trained RPF personnel constantly. The Station Masters have also been given access to monitor CCTV camera footages as a part of surveillance being undertaken by South Eastern Railway.

 

Besides, keeping a constant watch, the CCTV Surveillance System helps in post incident crime investigations. S E Railway aims to cover all major railway stations with CCTV Surveillance System in a phased manner.
